Mango-Avocado Salsa

An easy summertime recipe that's quick and delicious

This mango-avocado salsa can be the perfect complement to your favorite grilled meat. I love to serve this one with my jerk pork loin and a side of Arroz con granules (rice with pigeon peas). The sweetness of the mangoes plays in balance with the saltiness of the jerk seasoning and the creaminess of the avocados cools the heat of the scotch bonnet peppers. This would be lovely on the side of grilled chicken or just to scoop up with a chip.

MANGO-AVOCADO SALSA

Let’s talk about the ingredients, shall we? It calls for simple, fresh, and easy-to-find ingredients so there is no excuse not to make this.

Ingredients:

mangoes – Make sure you are choosing sweet ripe mangoes that are still nice and firm to the touch. We don’t want the ingredients to get mushy so making sure they are firm, will help to keep their shape.

avocados – Same as the mangoes, you want a ripe but firm avocado to hold its shape. It’s important that the flavors come together in your mouth and not get overly mushy in the bowl, otherwise, it affects how you experience each flavor on your palette.

red onions – While red onions have a sharp and intense flavor, they are one of the sweeter onions that will compliment everything nicely and will give some crunch to each bite.

cilantro – I don’t think anything is a salsa without cilantro. Cilantro adds some much-needed vibrance and freshness to the dish and ties it all together.

lime juice – will make sure your avocados don’t oxidize and stay looking beautifully green when you serve them up. It will also give a nice tart base for everything to work off of.

salt & pepper – Of course we have to salt and pepper to taste or everything will be bland.

This recipe whips up in minutes and I don’t recommend making it too far ahead of serving. I usually like to make this right before I start plating up my meal.

Give it a try and let me know what you think.
